It’s 2025 and we are still working to end gendered pay inequity.
Removing gendered divisions between workers is a core objective of labour – better equity leads to better unity, and vice versa.
At the same time, it helps that the face of the labour movement is being slowly and surely transformed. The public service, and particularly women in the public service, are an increasing segment of the labour movement membership and leadership. UCTE-PSAC has been at the forefront of the pay equity struggle, notably pursuing a long legal fight to win a landmark victory for hundreds of thousands of workers. This has been a long and complicated struggle, in which our own late past National President Christine Collins played a significant part.
