Canadian Firefighters

Protecting & Supporting Personnel

The Union of Canadian Transportation Employees (UCTE) has long been dedicated to advocating for the health and safety of its members, including the teams of firefighters we represent.

In the realm of firefighting, where firefighters have long been exposed to a variety of harmful substances, many linked to cancer, UCTE’s efforts have led to substantial action. Bill C-224: An Act to establish a national framework for the prevention and treatment of cancers linked to firefighting, which UCTE played a crucial role in, raises awareness about the occupational hazards faced by firefighters, presents a robust framework for cancer prevention and consistent treatment across the country, and promotes the recognition of firefighting-related cancers as occupational diseases.
