It is the International Day for the Eradication of poverty. As a union we’re part of the global fight against poverty in many ways:
Worldwide, countries with higher union density tend to have better measurements of economic equality, in statistical study after study. In many unions, locals can be great vehicles to organize action for better economic policy and community supports, as well as to participate in charitable projects like food drives to help those experiencing poverty in the present.
UCTE is a big supporter of the PSAC Social Justice Fund. For example of how its work addresses poverty, see: Social Justice Fund : Anti-poverty Initiatives in Canada
We leverage our collective power to fight poverty. There are a number of access points for you to get involved! Talk to your local about getting to work at the grassroots or propose an initiative of your own.
