Today, November 30, is day 700 without a contract for more than two hundred employees at NAV CANADA in nine UCTE locals all across the country.
Members will not stand by and wait. They are standing strong behind the UCTE-PSAC negotiating team and their demands for a decent contract. They are sending in expressions of solidarity and impact statements about the hardships of working without a contract. This week they will show their support in the workplace to turn the heat up on the employer.
The bargaining team isn’t waiting either, having filed for conciliation and created a mobilization plan with input from members of the bargaining unit. The members are engaged: attendance was excellent at two virtual town hall meetings this month where members got updates and contributed to the mobilization plan.
Background
The bargaining team has been in contract negotiations with the employer for more than two years. They’ve met numerous times over that period including several days in October. There was some progress but at the last meeting in October they reached impasse.
At issue
Our bargaining team has prioritized strong job security provisions, retroactive pay for current employees and retirees, and wage increases in line with those offered to other unionized groups at NAV Canada.
Even while we have not made significant progress on those issues, NAV CANADA’s bargaining team is still demanding concessions on job security.
What comes next
The NAV CANADA bargaining unit is already mobilizing. Other UCTE members, please stay tuned for opportunities to show support! Please follow us for further updates.
