This year, the Canadian Mental Health Association reminds us that “Living with mental health challenges often forces people to hide behind a “mask” to protect themselves from judgment and discrimination.”
The masks can isolate and further burden people, making it harder to reach out for support.
The theme of Unmasking Mental Health is to remind us that making space for honesty and vulnerability, can be critical to getting the support and treatment we need. The hope is to create a wave of openness and courage running through our culture this week.
Training and resources are available Centre of Expertise on Mental Health in the Workplace to help be more aware of mental health risks in your workplace, and to support co-workers who are dealing with issues of mental health and addiction. We all need to look out for one another, and our health and safety goes much deeper than our physical health.
