Transportation Safety Board has launched a survey into vessel fires.
We encourage ship’s crew members, port and harbour workers, and responder members to participate. Marine vessels are also workplaces for a great many of our members, who surely have some important ideas about improving safety.
In their preamble to the survey, The TSB “In the past decade, nearly 400 fires on commercial vessels have been reported to the TSB, with 10% resulting in total vessel loss.” Fires that have been investigated by TSB in recent years have caused injuries and even fatalities. Incidents have also led to evacuations, search and rescue operations, cargo damage, damage to vessels, and temporary waterway closures.
More information has been released by TSB here, and you can participate in the survey here.
