Every September, the Canadian Fallen Firefighters Foundation hosts its memorial weekend. Firefighters from across Canada come to honour and remember fallen firefighters. The ceremony takes place at the Canadian Firefighters’ Memorial in Ottawa.
Joe LePage, a firefighter at Windsor International Airport—local 00012—represented UCTE at the ceremony Sunday September 13. Of the 141 names added to the memorial in the past year, three were from the Windsor municipal fire service, and Joe was proud to be able to pay his respects.
“It’s an honour and a privilege to be here today paying respects to those who made the ultimate sacrifice,” said Joe. “Their sacrifices and their families’ sacrifices will never be forgotten. I’m proud to be here representing the UCTE and Canada’s airport firefighters.”
UCTE is proud to represent over 350 firefighters at airports across Canada, and to be able to participate in the memorial each year.
