Our solidarity is expressed in sticking together to support bargaining and job action, in standing together against exploitation and injustice at work, and also in mutual aid during tough times. At our triennial convention this year, members continued to show up for each other. We take this moment to acknowledge their generosity.
Our Equity Committee, with input from members, organized a 50/50 draw and a ‘Bags of Hope’ sale that together raised $868 for the Edmonton Veterans Food Bank.
The 50/50 winners donated the majority of their prize money to a UCTE member who recently lost their home in a fire.
Delegates, locals, and staff also made donations on the convention floor to support the same member. UCTE matched the donations by members and locals. All told, we raised thousands to help this member and their family get themselves back on their feet.
This is another way we build our collective strength. Thanks to everyone for the mutual support.
