UCTE Leadership visits Atlantic region
From October 6 to 11, National President Teresa Eschuk and National Vice-President Mike Tennant met with members and toured a number of workplaces in the Atlantic region.
Their tour started at the Port of Halifax local 80826 on October 6 and ended at Charlottetown Airport local 60925 on October 11.
On the way, Eschuk and Tennant also managed to visit Halifax Airport local 80829, Moncton Transport Canada local 60602, Moncton Airport local 60605, Moncton NAV CANADA local 60603, Fredericton Airport local 60601, Port of Saint John local 61124, and Saint John Airport local 60615 — all within the work week. They also attended two Annual General Meetings — of locals 60615 and 60605.
The trip was well worthwhile, according to Eschuk: “I always love visiting UCTE members and seeing the valuable work they perform. Our members are our strength, and many were surprised and happy that we came to meet them.”
Nicolas Maltais is President of the Transport Canada Local in Moncton: “Seeing Teresa and Mike take the time to walk through the office and speak with our members reminded everyone that they matter, and that the people representing them in Ottawa haven’t forgotten what it’s like to work on the front lines.”
“Hearing their own stories from their time at Transport Canada made that connection more personal. Next time, we’ll have to bring them back in the summer for some true Maritime hospitality!”
