This year’s tournament was once again at the Meadows Golf and Country Club in the National Capital Region. Golfers enjoyed great weather and helped UCTE donate $7000 to Canadian Guide Dogs for the Blind, our charity chosen by the late Mike Wing.
When he was UCTE national president, Mike started the tournament 19 years ago to create a day to allow union leaders, members, employers, and others to see each other outside the day-to-day conflicts that often surround labour-management relations. He chose the Canadian Guide Dogs for the Blind as beneficiary. The amazing work they do does not receive any government funding but is exclusively supported by private donations. We were joined this year by one of their guide dogs in training, two-year-old Olive.

Mike’s family has participated in the tournament and this year was no exception, they had a strong showing with two foursomes and his wife Pat spoke at the reception.
Congratulations to all the raffle prize winners, and the following:
- Jeff Whitekker’s foursome, who had the best score of the day,
- Siqin Guo’s foursome for Most Honest Golfers,
- Madison Pigeon – Longest Drive (women):
- Gary Drisdell – Longest Drive (men):
- Nancy Pigeon – Closest to the Pin (women): and
- Barry Tchir – Closest to the Pin (men).
Our thanks to Orbit Insurance who entered a group and donated a cooler to the raffle, and Union Savings who also donated a raffle prize.
A huge thank you to all who participated and made the day successful and fun, we look forward to seeing you again next year.
