UCTE is saddened by the loss of The Honourable Marc Garneau. Our condolences to his family and friends, and a grieving nation.
He was Canada’s first astronaut, flying his first space shuttle mission on the Challenger in 1984. Later he served as President among other roles at the Canadian Space Agency, working with the UCTE members who staff the agency. He moved on from there to become a Member of Parliament and was also Minister of Transport from 2015 to 2021.
UCTE represents members at both the Canadian Space Agency and Transport Canada.
Garneau was also the keynote speaker at our 2023 UCTE Triennial Convention, where members will remember his welcoming remarks.
