Congratulations to Brother Steven Binder who was awarded the position of Volunteer Fire Chief for the Reserve Mines Fire Department. Many of you know him from many UCTE education conferences and conventions as he is also the president of Local 80807, Sydney Airport.
Steven explains that his inspiration for being a firefighter was his grandfather who was also a volunteer firefighter at the same fire department in the 1930’s. When talking about what motivates him, Steven says
“I want to make my community better, safe, and be surrounded by great people.”
Visit the webpage www.reserveminesfire.net or their Facebook page, Reserve Mines Fire Department.
Like many other groups, the Reserve Mines Fire Department is dependent on fundraising activities to be able to keep up their good work. Unfortunately, the impact of COVID-19 has made it even more challenging for the volunteer firefighting organization. “We have had to get creative and join many other Nova Scotia Vol fire depts in a large weekly 50/50 draw’’ said Steven.
