The world of protecting and cherishing our mother tongues changes as we move through the digital age. We have new techniques for preserving spoken languages and oral history, but we also face new threats of homogenization of global culture.
Also, online translators have grown dramatically more competent and sophisticated in recent years. At the same time, we recognize as trade unionists that reliance on digital tools is quickly eroding job security for translators, who are still ultimately more reliable, and more accountable for the outcomes of their work.
May we approach a world free of language barriers without losing the linguistic heritage that makes us all who we are.
